Tedious worrywart Democrats. I get it--Trump shouldn't be competitive. But he is--that's our country right now. The answer is "get to work" not "egads, whatever shall we do." God save me from the fretters and doomsayers.

Maybe the real culprit is the misinformation ecosystem that makes half the country believe things that seem absurd to the rest of us.

I had a similar thought reading this argument that the inflation rate is being calculated incorrectly: https://www.theringer.com/2024/3/5/24090931/what-many-economists-and-i-got-wrong-about-the-economy-interest-rates-housing

I don't really believe that the proposed alternative calculation would be a better guide for policy. But the inflation rate is used for both economic and political analysis, and it feels like the current measure may not be the best metric to, for example, plug into political forecasting models based on economic conditions.

In other words, I too look at the polling in the presidential election and think, "this really doesn't look like what I'd expect; should there be some additional factor that would help me set my expectations."
