So your answer to the question “Does the evidence support them?” Is no. Are you just failing to reject all null hypotheses? Or do you have an explanation that you like? I guess 2024 was a tough year for incumbents survives? But you didn’t have a section for that in the article.
I think your comment “double down on what they did already” is not just a description of Trump but of what Dems should do (but probably won’t). Keep a consistent message about Bidenomics being a reversal of trickle down and offering concrete economic benefits to most people but not overnight. Keep a consistent message about not demonizing Republicans but encouraging them to desert Trump & Musk and their nominees as carrying divisive and destructive messages. Keep an inclusive stance on LGBTI issues and do more to explain why it matters and doesn’t actually hurt the folks who are scared about “men in women’s bathrooms/sports”. Keep defending women’s reproductive rights as a fundamental part of both women’s full citizenship and crucial to actual healthcare provision.
I subscribe to the LA Times but haven't been able to find the desire to actually visit the site after the non-endorsement a few weeks ago. Thanks for the link, Professor. I read it with interest. I see the Presidential vote is steadily growing closer and Trump is presumably going to drop below 50% shortly. I'm curious if all the folks who were pushing the "Epic D rejection for The Ages" take will ever acknowledge that. Your point about people judging the economy - rightly or wrongly - to be horrible and the primary driver seems awfully relevant to me. Maybe it was Chris Hayes who made a sardonic comment on the extensive reflection that Rs did after 2020. Clearly it worked for them! :-)
