"...rest assured, this next administration will be chaotic and exhausting, and that’s the point."

Definitely, along with the performative cruelty to marginalized/powerless populations.

Seth, insightful article today, however you have missed the forest for the trees. IMHO our President is going to flood the zone, in other words starting on the afternoon of January 20th and continuing until your side gives up or has a mental breakdown, he is going all in on upsetting the status quo. Year he is going to pardon the political prisoners of Jan6th, that should give you all an initial case of the vapors. Then he is going to begin to deport the millions of illegal aliens that your dementia Joe let into our country, and I could not think of a better place to start than on the left coast. As far as persecution of the rouge members of the Jan 6th Committee, they are going to find themselves in court more often than on The Hill. You and the rest of academia better start dumping your worshipping of DEI because, it’s that or you are going to lose your federal funding and we know academics live to slop from the trough of the American taxpayer. It’s going to be great to have a real President back in our White House. Buckle up 2025 is going to be great. Oh and hope you are having a great semester break…. Best alway.

Oh, btw aren’t you excited about all of the chaos and disruption we are going to have here in the USA!!!!!!! It’s gonna be a BLAST!!!!! BTW You forgot that he is going to approve a HUGE TAX BREAK for all of the millionaires and billionaires and corporations in this country…that is really important because they really need one, don’t you think? AND he also said he ‘s taking back that canal in Panama …although I did read Panama has a big lawsuit against him for huge taxes he owes them which may be his motivation but no big deal there…and buying Greenland cause the people in Greenland love chaos too…and wants to annex Canada…it’s just like making deals all over the world like with his hotels and golf courses…should be a piece of cake for him. AND you are right about those J6 prisoners….I think American citizens should have the right to violently break into Congress anytime they want to! AND you have forgotten to mention all the stellar nominations he has put up for his Cabinet positions and other super important positions in government…one is more brilliant & competent than the other…I mean Gaetz was a little dodgy but who cares if they have had paid sex with an underage girl and organized sex and drug parties ….I mean you gotta have a little fun in this life , right? Oh, and that stuff about loving mother Russia & Putin…Putin’s such a nice guy and why shouldn’t he start a war in Ukraine and kill a few of them…the Ukrainians don’t deserve to live in a democracy if Putin doesn’t want them to, right? AND so what if RFK dealt drugs and had a zillion affairs and has a worm in his head…we are not all perfect, right? Plus,, you are right,,,people who have good educations / academia are so F’g stupid about life…maybe we should close down all the colleges & universities in the USA so they won’t be able to get degrees and then make laws and decisions you & I don’t agree with…hmmmmm…maybe that won’t fly cause this is supposed to be a democratic country and we sorta need to keep up with the rest of the world. You understand that , I’m sure. Oh, well, here’s to President Musk, and may he have a successful presidency!

Gail, thanks for the reply, I see you thought about this deeply or just summarized what some talking head said on MSDNC. I hope it was the former. See is it not great to see things from two different perspectives and weigh the positives and negatives of each. That is why The Stack is so much more informative than what ward of the state college professor is indoctrinated her students with.

Again thanks for the insightful reply. Best, Lynn

True story: the first political advertising I remember was hearing a radio ad (which confused me) in 1978. Republican challenger Roger Jepsen was criticizing Senator Dick Clark of Iowa of giving up the Panama Canal. Jepsen said something in the commercial along the lines of, "I voted to keep what is rightfully ours." I asked my mom or dad about it because I didn't know what he was talking about.

Jepsen went on to beat Clark in 1978, then lost to Tom Harkin in 1984.

Didn't guess that in the 2020s, a U.S. president would call for taking back the Panama Canal.

“Rest assured”? While I agree with everything you’ve said, I’d start that sentence all over again.

The pain, destruction and distraction is the point. There are some other influences though.

1. Does djt need SCOTUS? Push comes to shove, djt is going to correctly claim he has absolute immunity. Just an aside, I thought part of the point of our

justice system was deterence. But that is just common sense. SCOTUS is the supremes.

2. djt has a private army. The militias have gone quiet. They haven’t gone away.

3. What and who can musk’s money buy for musk himself and djt?

There is more than one way this can go sideways and don’t look to the democrats to organize the resistance.
