I wonder how much Nikki Haley's performance in New Hampshire inspired the Harris campaign to go as hard at winning over Republicans as they did. Fool's gold, as always. Dune 2 was indeed fantastic for the reasons you described, though my favorite movie of the year was The Substance
Good lists, Three Body Problem is a good reminder that Dan and Dave can make great TV when they care enough to try and have a clear road map of going from point A to B to C. I think this explains why Game of Thrones started out so strong but declined in quality as they got more and more creative control and had to start doing thing their own way once they got past the books. (In that sense GRRM not being able to finish the books probably deserves more blame for why the show went down hill.)
Also this is probably more of a 2025 story than a 2024 one but the "Triumph of the Plutocrats" seems like an underrated story, not just for Trump but even beyond as Vance is likely the 2028 frontrunner for the GOP at this point and he was basically hand picked out of obscurity by Peter Thiel etc.
Seth, you left off the best and most dedicated commentators on your widely read Substack!!!!! Also would you tell your colleague Professor Jonathan Bernstein that he is being closed minded by only letting “paid” readers to like or comment on his pontifications on The Stack. It is a real barrier to give and take to ask people to pay to exchange ideas…. Also, you really need to look up the recipe for Publix Crandberry and White Chocolate Cookies I thought I had a hard copy but I can not find it, they are to die for…
Very good--saw your excerpt on Political Wire and this checks out. If you check my own effort at this, you'll see a lot of overlap. I'm on-board!
