I totally agree SM, especially because of the recent global trend of unhorsing (or weakening) of incumbent governments. All the other factors that you cite also matter, including the complete capture of the GOP, which, to survive, needs the base that Trump owns.
I am impressed by all the "insider info" in this piece. I came to similar conclusions about the likely result of earlier convictions based on the aftermath of Hitler's Beer Hall Putsch, and just assumed that jail time would have only added to Trump's (constantly begged for) martyr creds. But I had no idea of the inner workings of the upper GOP echelon and their interrelations with Trump's interests: much of the material here didn't even make it onto Joy Reid or Rachel Maddow.
Based on this writing, I think I will like your forthcoming book. But of course I could be wrong--to find out for sure, have your pub send me a copy, and, if it seems like it's in my wheelhouse, I will review it for 3:16 AM Magazine here: https://www.3-16am.co.uk/articles/.c/a-hornbook-of-democracy-book-reviews
This is a tough read, but the only part I'd really argue with is the criminal convictions. Especially if Trump had been sentenced and imprisoned--you really think that wouldn't prevent him from winning the general election?
All of this leaves out the very real possibility the election was hacked in key swing states. Trump practically bragged about it onstage last night. Not to mention how many down-ballot elections swung toward Democrats. No, I am not convinced this election wasn’t stolen, for all the reasons you mention above. The GOP is scared to death of Trump and they went along with it. But we will likely never know the truth, because Kamala didn’t challenge it, at least not publicly. The Democrats fear civil unrest more than they fear the lack of justice. My prediction is that either way, we will have civil unrest. Not because of fascism, but because of the oligarchy. Trump supporters got played and I think we’re about to see a sleeping giant awake.
Other than his own words? “We don’t need your votes. We’ve got the votes.” “(Elon) knows those computers better than anybody. All those computers. Those vote-counting computers. And we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide.” Trump ALWAYS says what he means because his ego is too big to not say the quiet part out loud.
Trump says a great many things that aren't true. And the votes in the swing states were actually a bit better for Harris than the votes in the non-swing states overall.
Seth, you have a keen sense of the obvious as candidates that spoke ill of the President had less then zero support among the voters. Now all you have to do is look at the news below the fold this morning. Biden handed out pardons to the reprobates on the January 6 Committee like candy. Biden even included Anthony Fuchie, the highest paid government employee in history and that is not counting the millions he got in kickbacks from Big Pharma. The Deep State in action with a little help from the head of Biden Crime Family. Here is something for you to consider, look at the actions of the Biden Administration over the last 75 days and that will tell you why Americans are feed up with the career DC swamp creatures and support our President. Go ahead examine all the garbage that has been thrown in the face of Americans just since the Democrat loss the election, I challenge you.
If Trump had been convicted on Federal charges of election interference, then the 14th amendment would plausibly have kicked in and prevented him from holding office. The Colorado case lost due to lack of any judicial conviction. Not saying SCOTUS would necessarily have ruled against him, but possible.

Thank you! It's not likely to be out for another year, but I appreciate this.
You’re talking like this was destiny. He only won the popular vote by 1.5%. Get a grip

His favorability ratings didn't change after his May 30th convictions, and I doubt other convictions would have changed them either.

That is not a very real possibility. There is no evidence of hacking nor any reason to believe it happened.

Not sure how you can say that in looking at an electoral map, but whatever.
Primaries? Primaries!

That is not what SCOTUS ruled. The 14th amendment already applies. They just decided no state has the power to enforce it.
So presumably then a federal conviction would overcome that. Of course if SCOTUS just decided that he was immune then that goes away too.
