The results of my June 2023 survey of Republican county chairs can now be seen at this Politico piece. A few highlights:
Still only about half of the chairs I spoke to have committed to a presidential candidate. The number of uncommitted dropped only slightly from the April survey.
Among the chairs who have committed to a candidate, Donald Trump was tied with Ron DeSantis back in the February wave of my survey. Today, Trump is beating DeSantis two-to-one. No other candidate has more than one or two chairs committed to them.
When I asked chairs whom they were considering, DeSantis still gets the most mentions, although his numbers have been dropping, while Trump’s have been rising. One of the biggest improvements in this number came from Tim Scott, who had a conventionally good campaign rollout this spring and has spent a lot of time on the ground in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Please check out the article! I’ll have some more bonus material later this week.
