Like you, I’ve been watching with horror and sadness as the Los Angeles area reels from devastating and ongoing fires. I grew up there, my parents still live there (they’re fine, thanks!), and I have many friends who’ve been affected or evacuated, some of whom have lost their homes.
Inspired by my cousin Sari Botton’s example at Oldster Magazine, I’d like to use this site to promote some aid resources. So, if you have or know of a crowd-funding campaign for an individual or family affected by the fire (on GoFundMe or elsewhere), please feel free to write to me at smotus@substack.com with the link. After a few days I will gather all your responses and publish a separate post listing those.
If you’d like to donate now, I recommend the American Red Cross, which has set up a California wildfires campaign, or the World Central Kitchen, which is providing meals for the displaced. Plus there’s the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, which is supporting the incarcerated firefighters at work throughout the area. Also, here is a list of GoFundMe campaigns for affected Black families in Altadena.
