Iowa Dispatch, Day 1
A long trek that concludes at a packed Asa Hutchinson rally
Just because your flight to Des Moines actually lands on time doesn’t mean that the airport, or the city, are ready for you. It was a fairly long slog to actually get the #DUinIowa students all together downtown, but we finally did it.
Highlights include student Aidan Evans asking Hutchinson the cause of the Civil War ("Slavery," he replied) and a vicious PETA carrot.
The room was overwhelmingly undergraduates from Denver, Georgetown, Xavier, and Notre Dame (and their professors), plus a number of reporters. One student wore a Nixon/Agnew 1972 t-shirt. There may have been actual Iowa caucusgoers in there but I wouldn’t swear to it.
